We Are Bigelow Fleming

Consultative Construction meets Service Excellence

You think big, so we plan small. Down to the finest detail, our consultative approach scales with your specific needs, combining the infrastructure afforded by big-name contractors, with the expertise, focus, trust, and personal care of a much smaller firm. Whether $500,000 or $15 million, we guarantee the same level of service excellence. Our approach is not new—it’s fundamental—and that’s what sets us apart.

Our Mission

Our company mission is to promote the advancement of our clients’ core strengths and capabilities by facilitating the evolution of their workspaces with unmatched expertise and uncommon care. Through our unique knowledge of innovative research centers and functional office spaces, coupled with a level of service, personal care, and peace of mind that stands alone, each project we take on can realize its full potential without the need for additional oversight, freeing up our clients to focus on their next big challenge.

Our History

Tom Bigelow and Kevin Fleming founded Bigelow Fleming in 2000 after partnering on a multimillion dollar industrial project for a Fortune 500 company. After undertaking several additional projects for local institutions together, they identified an underserved gap in the industry for consultative, client-centric expertise specific to the research space. Since their former company did not have the equipment, expertise or infrastructure necessary to address this need, Tom and Kevin developed a specialized business model that leveraged their mutual knowledge of the industry to build a new and innovative company of their own—Bigelow Fleming.

Our Key Differentiators

We have over 25 years of industry experience building laboratories, classrooms, retail locations, offices, and research centers. Specializing in these specific, highly complex projects allows us to make them as safe and functional as possible. We provide a thorough understanding of how new spaces within larger operations need to function, as well as the personal attention necessary to create a custom facility that suits the client’s specific needs. We strive to share our clients’ perspective and understand their vision so that we can make it a reality.
Customer service is not just a courtesy to us; it is the center of our business model. We take our responsibility as a trusted and supportive partner for our clients seriously. This dedication extends to providing long-term value by offering meaningful guidance and professional advice, rather than simply quoting an estimate. It means being honest and conservative, anticipating and addressing potential issues, rather than making short-sighted, or overly confident promises. It also means negotiating with and choosing trustworthy subcontractors – dealing with them directly, rather than leaving the client to fend for themselves. Our commitment to service means that we will adjust our approach to accommodate your specific needs—not the other way around.
New construction is never without its challenges, but it is how we handle them that makes all the difference. Our clients have busy schedules and other aspects of their business to worry about. However, they know that when it comes to taking on a new project, they are in good hands. We do not see the value in hiring a construction manager if the client is left to deal with the issues and stresses that arise from the job, or if they are left in the dark wondering what is happening with their worksite. We believe that hiring an expert means just that- being taken care of by people who have been there before and know how to handle the challenges. At Bigelow Fleming, you hire a construction manager who is knowledgeable, trust-worthy, and will communicate with you openly and honestly.
Our consultative approach not only gives our clients top quality results custom-made for their specific needs, but also the knowledge and guidance of industry experts. We understand that, sometimes, all you need is a consultation about a future project, or a renovation of an existing space. This is why we will meet with our partners, free of charge, to offer guidance on future initiatives. Whether it is a large, industrial project, or a small, personal service, we are there for our clients.

Testimonials

CJ Smith
Senior Manager, Babson College

I joke that sometimes their superintendents would have a vacuum in their hand more than a hammer. When you work in a space with classes going on and high foot traffic, you don’t want to see dust everywhere. Bigelow Fleming would take care of the place as if it was their own living room. All colleges have occupied spaces and the work is year-round. For me, if I can keep the customers happy and the level of disruption, inconvenience and dust is kept to a minimum, then I am doing a good job.

Kyle Pagel
Project Manager, Duracell

The key value they bring to the table is that they look not only at one-off projects, but they form partnerships with clients. What they are really focused on is not only the quality of the construction, but also the customer interaction and really trying to take ownership of projects. They weren’t just in there to do a quick job and leave. They provide a lot more. They are much more interested in what the client is working on long-term, and establishing the relationship.
